He and his girlfriend Elizabeth Kreissler of Elxleben had a son August and five years later traveled to the US via Hamburg port in 1854 arriving in New York and settling in the Detroit Michigan area where they were members of the Trinity Lutheran Church. They are listed in the "Germans to America" multi volume work documenting German immigration to the USA. Karl and Elizabeth are both buried at Trinity Lutheran cemetery.
