MRS. LEE HOOPER PASSES
As we go to press, we learn of the death tonight of Mrs. Lee Hooper at her home, “The Pines,” at Speedwell, following an attack of pneumonia. The funeral will be held Sunday morning, March 15th at 10:00 o’clock at the home.
Mrs. Nellie Hooper, the wife of Lee Hooper, and a daughter of the late Senator Lewis J. Smith, was a member of one of Jackson County’s oldest and most prominent families. She was a devoted worker in the Speedwell Methodist church and missionary society work, and had many friends in this county and section.
Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Mrs. George Crout of Sylva, three sons, Lewis, Grinnell and James Hooper of Speedwell, two stepsons, Major D.L. Hooper, Washington, D.C., and H.O. Hooper of Eagle Lake, Florida, two grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Nannie McGuire, Miss Ida Smith, and Mrs. John (Bertie) Phillips all of Cullowhee, one brother, Lewis J. Smith of Franklin, and a large number of other relatives and friends.
