Olive Lindsay Burbank was born 11 November 1884 in Deweyville, Utah to Daniel Mark and Adeline Lindsay Burbank. In 1886, when Olive was two years old, the family moved to Bennington, Bear Lake, Idaho. She had the following brothers and sisters, Sarah(Marble)-1886, Mary(Kisan)-1870, Daniel-1873, David-1875, Alba (Romrell)-1877, Adell (Moore)-1879, Joseph-1882, Hyrum 1886. After the move to Bear Lake 3 more children were added: Chester and Lester(twins)-1889 and Dorotha(Sparks)-1892.
25 February 1905 Olive married William Hughes Hunter in the Logan Temple. They started out in Nounan, just north of Georgetown, but shortly after, moved to Bennington, Idaho. 1 Oct 1906, a son, William Hughes Jr. was born, but much to their sorrow, passed away 13 March 1907 from pneumonia. LaVon, a daughter, was born 1 March 1908.
In 1909, the family moved to Holbrook and homesteaded 160 acres of sagebrush. While living here two more sons were born, Daniel Mark, 17 September 1910 and Harry Lorrain, 23 September 1912. Besides breaking up the new land, William freighted grain to Malad, sometimes taking the whole family.
William's health began to deteriate so he moved his family back to Bennington. The family learned that William was suffering from diabetes. 14 June 1918, another son, David Lawrence was born.
Two years later, 6 February 1920, William passed away and was buried in the Bennington Cemetery. Olive was left with the difficult task of raising her 4 children: LaVon was now 12, Daniel was 9, Harry was 7 and D. Lawrence not quite 2, and a ranch to run.
That summer Olive met John Turner Duke and after a short courtship, they were married on 9 October 1920. John was a good father to the children who called him "Uncle John".
Olive's family was complete when 2 little daughters were added to the family: Sarah on 18 July 1921 and Ila on 7 March 1923. Sorrow again came when John passed away on 6 April 1926. Little Sarah was not quite 5 and Ila was just 3.
In 1929,Olive married Royal Bills, but things didn't work out and they soon separated, however Lavon and Royal's daughter, Birdie, remained lifelong friends.
The boys were now old enough to help Olive. Some of Olive's and William's siblings remained in Bennington and were a source of comfort and support. Both the Hunter and Burbank families held yearly reunions in Bennington.
In time the children married and started their own families and jobs, but Harry chose to remain on the ranch. The ranch was out of town and had no modern conveniences so they moved to Bennington townsite.
All her life Olive was a hard worker, but found time to crochet, quilt and sew. She was very thrifty and never wasted anything. Even her rags were crocheted into rugs.
She passed away 16 September 1963 and was buried in the Bennington Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands: William Hughes Hunter and John Turner Duke, and three sons: William Hughes Hunter, Daniel Mark and wife Bernice Williams Hunter, Harry Lorrain and
a son-in- law, Alvin A. Scholes.
She was survived by 3 daughters: Lavon Scholes, Sarah (Wendell) Walton and Ila (Jack) George, and 1 son David Lawrence (Ruby) Hunter, daughter-in-law Merlin Kearl Hunter and 21 grandchildren. She was also survived by a brother, Lester Burbank of St. Anthony and a sister, Dortha Sparks of Bennington. Funeral services were held 19 September 1964 in the Bennington Ward Chapel. She was 79 years and 10 months old.
