Gary Lee Aanenson, born January 30, 1939, died suddenly at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, April 24, 2003.

Services were held Wednesday April 30 at Grace Lutheran Church, Luverne, The Rev's. Maurice Hagen and Dell Sanderson officiated. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Luverne. Military honors provided by VFW.

A 1957 graduate of Luverne High School, Gary attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Mankato State University before entering the Army in October 1961. He received his basic training at Fort Carson, CO. As a Specialist nth class, he was assigned to the Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) in Vietnam where he served his country until 1964.

Gary's first job was with the Neilson Company in Chicago. He traveled on the East Coast as a test market analyst for the company's food and drug division.
After graduating from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's degree in Business, Gary began work in the accounting field. He worked as a CPA; first for the Alfred Maroney Company, and then for Arthur Anderson in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Gary's most recent position as a CPA was with the New Mexico Physicians and Health company until his retirement for health reasons in 1991.

His interests included golf and politics. Having played basketball in high school, Gary was an avid follower of the University of New Mexico basketball and football programs. He was as avid reader; reading multiple newspapers everyday. He also enjoyed working on the crossword puzzles in each of the papers.

Survivors include his mother Elizabeth Agatha (nee Hagemann), Luverne; one sister, Ellen R. Smit, Andover, MN; brothers, Gregory A. (Laura) Aanenson, Champlin, MN; and Mark A. (Gloria) Aanenson, Champlin, MN; one niece and five nephews, Paul D. (Nicole) Smit, David K. (Carla) Smit, Gregory C.A. Aanenson, Danielle M. Aanenson, and Justin M. and Andrew M. Aanenson; grand-nieces, Kayla N. Smit, RaeAnne J. Smit, Alicia E.L. Smit.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Alex Aanenson.

Dingemann Funeral Home, Luverne, was in charge of arrangements.
