PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 8- Capt. Howard Cole, who had been stationed at the Naval Air Development Center in suburban Johnsville until January, died Sunday in Philadelphia Naval Hospital. He was 45 years old and lived in Warrington.
Captain Cole was graduated from the United States Naval Academy and saw action in the African and Pacific Theaters during World War II.
In 1944, he returned to this country for flight training and finished out the war serving with aircraft squadrons and carriers. After duty tours in Iceland, Bermuda, Key West, Fla., and San Diego, Calif.. Captain Cole commanded Anti-submarine Squadron 21 in the Pacific.
Surviving are his widow, the former Jane G. Sadler; three sons, David, James and Frank; a daughter, Deborah; his father, James, a brother and a sister."

She was the wife of Anthony Atema, and formerly the wife of Captain Howard Cole, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate who served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Captain Cole passed away in 1964. They were blessed with four children, Rev. David Cole, Debbie Riniker, Rev. James Cole and Frank Cole.
Born Nov. 17, 1918, in Ridgefield Park, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Rev. David and Mrs. Gertrude Sadler. Mrs. Atema was a graduate of William Patterson University (B.S. degree in elementary education) and of Penn State University (master's degree in education). She taught for thirty years in various states until her retirement in 1980.
Mrs. Atema was a former member of First Baptist Church of Frederick, where she served as the third grade Sunday school teacher for eighteen years and directed the Vacation Bible School for eight years and the Women's Missionary Union for seven years.
Mrs. Atema was a member of the Mission Service Corporation of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. She participated in partnership evangelism of the Southern Baptist Convention International Mission Board. Most recently, she was a member of the Emmanuel Bible Church in Frederick.
Mrs. Atema is survived by her husband of twenty-four years, Anthony Atema; the four children mentioned above; three stepchildren, the Rev. Thomas Atema, Larry Atema and Toni-Ruth McKinnon; a brother, the Rev. George Sadler; twenty-three grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tracy Troxel officiating.
Interment will be on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at the Mechanicsville Cemetery, Mechanicsville, Pa., at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Bible Church's "New Church Building Fund," Emmanuel Bible Church, 801 Tollhouse Ave., Suite G-2, Frederick, MD 21701."
I have also included a Naval photograph of Howard taken in October 1962, one of he and Jane taken sometime during the mid to late 1950's era, as well one of their entire family during that same era, one from the 1942 USNA Lucky Bag Yearbook and finally, one taken of him as a child.
Howard graduated from the USNA in 1942 and his family can be found living at various times during the 1940's, '50's and '60's in Norfolk, VA, Coronado, CA and Warrington, PA.
