Vancil T. Irgang, 40 , of nearby Spenard, was killed Monday night when
the car he was driving rolled over five times on the Seward Highway six
miles north of here … Two passengers with Irgang, his wife and another
woman, also of Spenard, were seriously injured and taken to the
Providence Hospital …
Territorial police said Irgang failed to negotiate a curve due to excess
speed ..Marks on the pavement indicated the car skidded some 600 feet
as it overturned and finally came to rest upside down off the highway …
Irgang's death was listed as the sixth traffic fatality of the year in Alaska …
All of them occurring in the third division ….

Funeral services for Vancil Henry Irgang will be held at the Anchorage Funeral Chapel, 819 7th Avenue, Wednesday, May 1 , at 2:00PM, Rev A. Herbert Mjorud of Central Lutheran Church of Anchorage officiating.
Vancil Henry of 2102 Arctic Boulevard, Spenard, died in the Providence Hospital April 22, 1957. He was born September 2
1916 in Arnett, Oklahoma.
Mr. Irgang is survived by his wife, Mary, and children, Vancil Henry Jr. and James. Also survived by his brother, Gene W. Irgang of Rialto, California and his sister, Mrs. Ruthe F. Lakin of San Bernardino, California and his parents, Mr & Mrs Stephen A. Irgang of San Bernardino. His mother is here for the services.
Mr Irgang was a member of the armed forces and served with the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He received the Asiatic - Pacific ribbon with two bronze stars as well as the Good Conduct Medal. He has been a resident of the Anchorage area for the past ten years and has been employed as a United States Government mail carrier.
Internment will be at the Evergreen Memorial Park, Anchorage. The color guard and firing squad of the American Legion will participate at the graveside services.
Active pallbearers are Paul DeRossett, Robert Stanford, Roy Moats, Glen Phillips, William Bowers, and John Lower.
