FACING NORTH: Accident scene where Sheble and his wife died on April 6, 1952. Photo taken August 4, 2010. Facing north. The town of Faison is just beyond the trees. Shown in the foreground is an upward grade that most likely concealed the approach of the school bus that Sheble struck head-on while passing an automobile in the north-bound lane. I traveled this road the previous night. As I drove south, I was unable to see that there was a low ridge-line in front of me. This daytime photo, facing north, shows the change in grade. Most of the rest of route 117 is basically level. I believe that this was the location of the accident.

FACING SOUTH: The accident scene on U.S. route 117 (North Carolina route 50) where Sheble and his wife died. Facing south. Photo taken August 4, 2010 just south of the town of Faison. There is a downward grade slope on the road where the sunlight is in this photo. At night, this slope is concealed from view.
