He was raised in the Lebanon area and attended Liberty School.
On June 16, 1934 he was united in marriage to Wilma Viola Smith and to this union one daughter and one son were born. They were married sixty-six years.
After he and Wilma were married, they went from farm to farm to pick tomatoes.
They eventually moved to their own farm and lovingly raised their family. He had also been a mail carrier, a truck driver and a school bus driver for the Joel E.Barber School for several years.
About sixteen years ago, Walter and Wilma retired, sold their farm and moved into Lebanon.
He volunteered as meal-on-wheels delivery, served as caretaker of Grange Hall Cemetery, played in the Kitchen Band, enjoyed playing cards at Hughes Senior Citizen Center.
Walter made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Ozark Bible Church where he served as song leader. He was well liked and will be greatly missed.
Graveside services for Walter Bowman will be Friday, September 15, 2000, at Grange Hall Cemetery under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma of the home; one daughter, Evelyn Cambria of Lake St.Louis; one son Dean (Hazel) Bowman of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Bill Cambria, six brothers and one sister.
