Mary Emma Chitwood (nee Hough). Daughter of Mildred Pickens and Charles Hough. She was born March 27, 1931 in Ionia MI and passed away quietly among family and friends on Monday, May 19, 2008 at her home in Rockford. Mary was a longtime resident and childcare provider for numerous children in the Comstock Park area. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Melvin Edward Chitwood; her parents, Charles and Mildred Hough Jeffrey; her stepfather, Victor Jeffrey; her former husband, Richard Chrzan, Sr.; her daugher, Mildred Chrzan; three sisters, Bertha Byberg, Catherine Gannon and Valera Whipple; as well as two brothers, Charles Hough, Jr.; and William Hough. Mary is survived by her five children and two stepchildren, Peg (Gary) Hedstrom, of Sparta, Rich (Jan) Chrzan of Freeport, Joe (Penny) Chitwood of Gratton, Ginny (Jim) VandenBerg of Comstock Park, Becky (Dan) VandenBerg of Rockford, Evelyn (Larry) Beardon of DeLand, FL and Eddie (Sue) Chitwood of Jacksonville, Fl; two sisters, Alice (Bob)Chrzan of Redford and Ina (Owen) Parker of Comstock Park; one brother, Albert (Sandy) Hough; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her two special fur babies, Maggie and Annie; as well as a large number of day care families and friends.
