Joseph was the son of Joseph Burger, Sr. (1787 - 1860) and Magdalene Schott Burger (b. 1785)

Joseph Jr. wed Briggita Shreyer (1820 - 1883) in Alsace, France. Their son, Victor C. Burger (6 Sep 1860 Alsace) married Ida Veronica Kempt 18 Sep 1883, and had three children: Alfred E. Burger, Ida M. Burger Shockley and Josephine C. Burger Faust.

Victor and Ida are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, San Antonio, Sec. John Lot 108; Alfred and Josephine Faust are nearby.

Leonard T. Shockely and his wife, Ida Burger, died in San Bernadino, CA in 1969 and 1970, respectively.
