Vada (Miller) Meidlinger, 98, died Friday, October 26. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianola. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Peteson Funeral Home in Indianola. A prayer services will follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Churchville, Iowa. Vada was born in East Peru, IA on August 9, 1914. Vada was the second child of Harley and Anna (Verwers) Carpenter. She graduated from Norwalk H.S. at 17. She married Louis Miller and they farmed in the St. Marys area until Louis's death. They loved traveling to Canada where Louis had lived and had a farm growing up. They enjoyed dancing every weekend. They wintered in Arizona and Texas before Louis's death. Afterwards, she continued going to Texas for the winter where she met and married Art Meidlinger of St. Paul, MN. She lived there and wintered in Texas until his death 13 years later. She then moved to Indianola. She enjoyed dancing and listening to music. She had the most beautiful flowers and enjoyed crocheting until the age of 90. She traveled to Canada, throughout the U.S., and Europe. In 2010, she moved to Vintage Hills Assisted Living before moving to Regency in Norwalk in 2011.

She is survived by daughter, Patty (Dale) Gavin, St. Marys; sons, Gary Miller, Chicago, and Jerry (Barb) Miller, St. Marys; son-in-law Darrel Deglandon, Lafayette, LA; stepson, Ken (Betty) Meidlinger, Afton, MN; grandchildren, Pam Gavin, Des Moines, Cathy (Scott) Wiegert, W. Des Moines, Tim (Mary) Gavin, Hobe Sound, FL, Beth (John) Manley, Overland Park, KS, Alan (Dr. Emily) Gavin, Ankeny; Joel Miller, Indianola, Alyssa Miller, W. Des Moines; nine great- grandchildren; sisters, Edna Clark, Pleasantville, Norma Houseman, Pleasantville. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis Miller, husband Arthur Meidlinger; daughter, Sandra Deglandon; son, Jimmy Miller; stepson, Arthur Meidlinger; parents, Harley and Anna Carpenter; sisters, Merna Foote, Arkansas, Erma Ohnemus, Indianola; brother, George Carpenter, Pleasantville.
