Pastor Wayne Preston Hafley, 67, of Minerva, Ohio, and formerly of Athens, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio.
A native and former resident of McMinn County, he was born Aug. 11, 1937, to the late Charlie Bryan and Minnie Millsaps Hafley and was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Hafley, Lester Hafley and Fred Hafley.

A resident of Ohio since 1979, he was the pastor of Mt. Zion Church of God in Minerva, Ohio, since 1991 and had formerly served as pastor at Carrollton Church of God for 12 years. He had been employed by Pioneer Furniture Manufacturing as a furniture foreman and had operated J&W Manufacturing Chair Factory in Athens.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Doris Jean McGahhey Hafley of Minerva, Ohio, whom he married on April 15, 1956; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice H. and Mike Davis of Ringgold, Ga.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Daniel Wayne and Paula Hafley of Bowerston, Ohio, Donald Preston and Sharon Hafley of Knoxville, and Richard "Ricky" Hafley of Rossville, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Paul "Pauline" Bradford of Niota; two brothers, the Rev. Olen Hafley of Sweetwater, and Charles Glenn Hafley of Cleveland; and his mother-in-law, Ailyne Fillers McGahhey Miller of Athens.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of God, God's Acres in Minerva, Ohio, with Pastor Roger L. Decker officiating. Local funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of God on Highway 39 in Athens. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in Wayne's memory to the family to help defray medical expenses. Envelopes will be available at the church.

The Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home of Newark, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.
