Vasiliki Maniates was my maternal great-grandmother.

Born in Argos, Greece, the daughter of Leonidas Loumbas and Sophia Flokas of Argos, Greece.

She was the wife of Demetrios James Maniates and they had 13 children. Vasiliki was 15 years old at the time of their wedding.

They were married around 1901 in Argos, Greece, and had their first eight children in Argos and Corinth, Greece. Sadly, five of their children died in infancy, it's been said that they were all girls.

A year after Demetrios emigrated to Chicago, Illinois, Vasiliki and their remaining three children--the youngest being my grandmother, Lula, age 3--joined him here and settled on Chicago's South Side in a house on 48th. Street.

Vasiliki and Demetrios had five more children--all of which lived to adulthood--for a total of 8 daughters and 5 sons. There was 18 years between their eldest and youngest children!

The family attended St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Oak Lawn, IL.

Vasiliki passed away three days after suffering a stroke at the age of 59. She was missed by her husband of 43 years, Demetrios J. Maniates, her eight adult children and (at the time of her death) eight grandchildren, two of which were named after her.

Her children that lived to adulthood were: Sophie Coulos, John Maniates, Lula Panagopulos, Louis, Peter, Andrew, Theodore, and Irene Maniates.

May she Rest in Peace.

I will add more complete biography soon...
