Mrs. A. J. [Jane] McLaughlin [McGlothlen] was born in Polk county, Iowa, May 15, 1858, and died in Spring Hill on the morning of March 19, 1908, at the age of forty-nine years, ten months and four days. She was married to John F. McLaughlin [McGlothlen] in August 1876, and was the mother of three girls, Nora, May and Ruth, all living and having homes of their own.
Stricken with paralysis in December 1907, but partially recovered sufficiently as to revive the best of hopes. She unexpectedly took her departure, without a struggle or a pain, seemingly asleep yet no more able to respond to the gentle touch of her husband in his efforts to awaken her.
She was a christian from her youth, was a faithful member of the Baptist church of this place at the time of her death. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother and a good neighbor.
She leaves her husband, her father, John Baber, three daughters, two sisters and four brothers and scores of friends. Her death proved a shock to the community. Certainly a good woman has left us, but though we mourn the loss it was gain to her.
Services were conducted in the Baptist church by the pastor of the M.E. church who spoke on John 17:25-26. After the services the remains were taken to the Webb cemetery for interment.
