DEATH OF WALTER J. BABER

Walter J. Baber was born at Carlisle, Warren county, Iowa, September 17, 1867, and died in a sanitarium at Kansas City, Mo., Dec. 12, 1924, at the age of 57 years, 2 months and 25 days.

He grew to manhood in Warren county, and in 1896 he was united in marriage there to Nancy Hopkins of Spring Hill, Ia., and they immediately settled in their home near Carlisle, where they resided for two years.

In the spring of 1899 they came to Lucas county, and have since lived within its bounds. Twelve years ago he purchased the farm one-half mile northwest of the Freedom church, and resided thereon until his passing away.

To this union five children were born, four sons and a daughter: Sewell K., Arthur A., Lloyd R., Leonard and Fern E., all of Chariton, Iowa.

Mr. Baber was well and favorably known and much respected by his neighbors and acquaintances, and did his share in improving and upbuilding the community in which he lived.

Besides his immediate family he leaves to mourn his demise, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hopper, Chariton, Ia.; and Mrs. Ida Wolf, Des Moines, Ia.; and three brothers, George Baber, Carlisle, Ia.; John Baber, Valley Wells, Texas; and Robert Baber, Ft. Des Moines, Ia.; and a large number of other relatives.

He was a kind husband, a devoted father and his presence and counsel will be greatly missed by the bereaved family but the memory of his life will be a precious heritage. The fatal disease was cancer for which he was being treated at the time of his death.
