He was born on May 16, 1929, in Bolivar, Mo., to Robert and Orvilla Nottingham Brashers. He married Erma Jean Ragsdale on Dec. 4, 1949, in Tunas, Mo. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2006, in East Peoria.
Surviving are one son, Michael (Beth) Brashers; one daughter, Debbie (Mike) Hargis; daughter-in-law, Becky Brashers all of Washington, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Kim (Matt) Anderson, Steve (Amanda) Hargis, Brandon Hargis, Tammy (Mark) Stone, Heidi (Eric) LeCrone, Linda Brashers and Justin Brashers; and eight great-grandchildren. Roy is also survived by one sister, Marie Gregg of Ozark, Mo.; and two brothers, Charles Brashers of Hanna City, Ill., and John (Emma) Brashers of Washington, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jim Brashers; one brother, William; two infant brothers; and two infant sisters.
Roy was an electrician for Caterpillar Tractor Co., where he worked for 35 years before his retirement in 1985.
To both his family and friends, Roy was known as a "jack of all trades," always willing to lend a hand to others. His expertise in all mechanical and electrical maintenance was helpful to many. Even in his later years, he was working on equipment like wheelchairs at the nursing home.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
