On Monday, February 13, 2023, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jacqueline Jean-Paul of Palm Coast, Florida passed away at the age of 81. Jacqueline was surrounded by her 3 children at her side during her transition.

Jacqueline Jean-Paul was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on March 18, 1941. Jackie enjoyed life and made sure to take great care of herself. After finishing her formal schooling, Jackie worked at a grocery store in Haiti, the owners of the grocery store loved her and her work ethic they helped pay for most of her wedding. Every morning before going to work Jackie would walk into the Notre Dame Cathedral in Port-au-Prince to pray. A faithful woman of God she remained until her transition. Jackie married in 1967 and had her first child before emigrating to the United States with her former husband to make a better way for their family. Jackie and her former husband would later have 2 more children. They eventually settled in Roselle, NJ after moving from Brooklyn, NY. She would later tell the story of how scared she was coming to America and didn't have much family here. A cousin of hers was supposed to pick them up at JFK Airport, but never showed up leaving them stranded. Another fellow Haitian noticed that they seemed lost and confused and confronted them. The stranger would later take them to her house in Brooklyn, and give up her son's bedroom. There they stayed a few months until having contact with another family member who would then take them to Elizabeth, NJ. Eventually moving and purchased a home in Roselle, NJ. In Roselle, Jackie learned to speak English and also learned how to sew while taking sewing classes at Abraham Clark High School, NJ in the evenings. She enjoyed sewing and became a seamstress making wedding dresses at a company in Rahway, NJ. She later gave up the profession as a seamstress and went on to work with adults with disabilities as a nurse aide at the State of New Jersey Woodbridge Developmental Center, Woodbridge, NJ giving her benefits and financial security. Jackie retired from Woodbridge Developmental Center in March of 2005 after working there for 14 years. In 2006 Jackie officially moved to Palm Coast, Florida where she proudly purchased her retirement home. There she enjoyed caring for her lawn and taking great pride in gardening. She loved watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She started sewing again in her leisure once she retired. Jacqueline joined the African American Cultural Society, in Palm Coast, made friends, and learned how to quilt blankets. Jackie was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Palm Coast. Jackie loved being with her family, whether it was in Florida, New Jersey, or New York.

Jacqueline is predeceased by her father Marc Jean Paul and mother, Amelie Exilus. She is survived by her sister, Marie Ange Lapeine Joseph, her children, Marie Guylene (Cedric) Louis Vassor, Galy Louis, Florance Louis, grandchildren, a grandchild, a nephew, a niece-in-law and her many family and friends, all of whom she loved and touched deeply.
