"Prominent County Merchant Dies

William H. Johnson, aged 56, prominent Hamblen county merchant, residing on the Bright pike, dropped dead early this morning. Mr. Johnson was well known to the farmers and people of this county, having operated a store on the Bright pike for a number of years. He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. Melinda Johnson, and the following brothers: Sam, Walter, and Robert. Funeral arrangements have not been made pending the arrival of relatives form out of town."

Funeral of W. H. Johnson
Funeral services for William H. Johnson, 52, who died suddenly Thursday morning at his home on the Bright pike, will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the Montvue Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Joe Stephens assisted by Rev. Arthur Fox. Interment will follow in Jarnagin's cemetery.
Deceased is survived by his wife and mother, Mrs. Melanda Johnson of this city; one adopted child, Gaines; three brothers, Robert of Bessemer City, N. C.; S. C. of Jellico, and Walter of this city; four sisters, Mrs. Ellen Parish of Whitesburg; Mrs. Sallie Lawson, Mrs. Tilda Robinson, Mrs. Dora Snyder, of this city.
The sudden death of Mr. Johnson comes as a distinct shock to his many friends and acquaintances."
