James Guthrie was married twice. His first wife's name has not been found. However, they produced one son, James B. Guthrie. He married his second wife, Margaret McRea, on Feb. 22, 1814. They had 7-children > Thomas, William, Alexander, James, Joseph, Elizabeth and John. James Guthrie was said to have had a great hatred for Indians all of his life due to the impressions made upon him by his mother's tales of suffering at their hands. (see page for Elizabeth Guthrie for details). James was the great-grandfather of Harry C. Guthrie.
