Born Aug. 8, 1917 in Murray, Utah to Orson James and Laura Pearline Smith. Married Enid Lucille Riley on March 24, 1945, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Lawrence graduated from Jordan High School. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army-Air Force from 1941-45. He was active in the LDS Church and held many positions, including two years as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple. Many families were blessed by the great variety of vegetables, fruits and flowers he grew in his garden for many years.
He was employed at EIMCO as a tool and die maker for 38 years. His closest and lifetime friends were from EIMCO. Loved to travel, fish, hunt, and to be with his family. He was an avid Jazz fan.
Survived by wife of 57 years, Enid; children, daughters and sons, Barbara (Brent) Sagers, Sandy; Helen (Wayne) Gardner, West Valley City; Neil (Chris) Smith, South Jordan; Royce (Paula) Smith, Sugar House; MarJean (Gary) Nelson, Evanston, Wyo.; Annette (Neil) Banner, Loa; Kendall (Marci) Smith, Sandy; 44 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Madison, Dorothy Morris, and Mary (Leonard) Lewis. Preceded in death by parents, and a brother, Zen.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the Sandy 3rd Ward Chapel, 8825 South 150 West. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State Street, and Friday from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the Church.
Interment: Holladay Memorial Park.
