Her father John Wise's first wife JaneMcMillan/MacMillan died in 1828 and John married Mrs. Lucy Potter/Porter, Aug 16, 1829, Belmont, Ohio. Elizabeth is likely daughter of Lucy who perhaps died in childbirth.


John Wise married Isabel Blain, Oct 24, 1833, Belmont OH, Robert Blain gave consent. (name also found Blaine and Blane) Isabel may be mother to Rachel and Westley who also went by name of Wallace.


There is also a marriage record for a John Wise to Susa/Sarah Crowner, April 7, 1839, if indeed this is same John Wise.


Her father John Wise married Elizabeth M. Hitchcock, Dec 7, 1843, Belmont, Ohio, with identical marriage record in Ohio County, Virginia before West Virginia statehood.


Elizabeth Wise 18 is listed on 1850 census, Pultney Belmont, Ohio with father John Wise 65 a farmer born Penna, and his wife Elizabeth 40 born PA, and siblings Rachel 12, Westley 10, and Isaac 6.

 This Elizabeth Wise married Rezin/Reazin spelled "Dorbey" on license/marriage record, Dec 26, 1850, Belmont County, Ohio.


Her brothers Wesley Wise 20 a boatman and Isaac Wise 15 are listed on the 1860 census, West Wheeling, Pultney, Belmont, Ohio with Elizabeth Wise 49, this record gives her birthplace as Maryland.

Wallace married Catherine Morrison. Wallace Wise was the pilot of steamer Iron Valley, a tow boat that exploded and sank in river, killing Wallace and a son of the Captain Prince. Reported in Belmont Chronicle, Aug 14, 1879.


John Wise's will made 1854 makes bequests to daughter Elizabeth Darby among other children named. John and Jane and his parents are buried at Rock Hill Cemetery where Rezin is interred. Her sister Rachel was not mentioned in will.


Sadly Elizabeth Darby died at such a young age in 1857 and record was brought to probate Dec 15, 1857, Belmont County, Ohio. Reazin Darby was appointed administrator, with John W. Wise and Wilson Stringer paid bond. Final probate filed Jan 12, 1858.


Widowed, Rezin Darby very quickly remarried to Margaret Jane Wise, Dec 24, 1857, Belmont, Ohio.


Elizabeth's father John Wise paid the $50. he designated for her to Rezin Darby, April 9, 1858.
