A funeral service celebrating the life of Ernestine Wilson, age 73, of Newark, will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service.
Ernestine passed away at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation on Thursday, October 6, 2016. She was born March 28, 1943 in Trion, Georgia to the late Clifford L. Hughes and Argie (Spraggins) Wiseman.
Ernestine enjoyed reading, playing cards and watching old western television shows. The most important thing to her was her children. She moved to the Newark area in 1974 from Florida. Ernestine had been a housekeeper for thirty-two years with Newark Healthcare (now Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation) retiring in 2009. She had a very strong faith in God, loved to cook fabulous southern style food and collected porcelain dolls.
She is survived by her four children, Randall Wayne (Kathy) Maddox, Rhonda Annette (James) Johnson, Randy Dale (Eva) Maddox and Buffy Denise (Mike) Gilbert; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ernestine was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Lee Hughes and James A. Hughes; a sister, Billie F. Buchanon; and a sister-in-law, Corrine (Hughes) Charlton.
Family and friends may call prior to the service on Tuesday, October 11, from 3-5 p.m. at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at Wilson Cemetery.
