Lawrence was better know as Shorty. He was the fifth child of Edd and Rosa Buttry, born near Greenbriar, Bollinger Co, MO. His sibblings were: Raymond (Buck), Ethel, James M (John), Lowry (Larry), Arnold (Pete), Willie (Bill), Solon (Sox), Jewel, and Mary Ellen. Shorty married Mildred Obards on June 15, 1933. They were the parents of Billy E, Bobby G, Joyce Ann (Pratt) and Thomas D. Two infants died at birth.
