Sarah Jane Wilcox was born in Nauvoo, Illinois to Samuel Allen Wilcox and Martha Bolton Parker. She had eleven siblings: Malinda, Lucy, John Dingman, Asenath Viola, Adam, Samuel Allen, Joseph, Silas McCaslin, Phoebe Roseltha, Boyd Extine, and David Alerman. Sarah married William L. Allred on 7 March 1859. They had two sons: Samuel Parley and Joseph Orson. She later married Newton Francis Austin Sr. on 7 June 1866 in Paris, Bear Lake, Idaho. They had nine children - Newton Francis Jr., Augustus Edwin, Martha Quina, Theodore Hugh, James Boyd, Leon Bernard, John McAslin, and Paul Leroy. Sarah was well known for her hand work. She won first prize at the 1892 World's Fair in Chicago. The Austin family moved from Idaho to Cardston, Alberta, Canada in 1898. Sarah and Newton moved to Kalispell, Flathead, Montana after 1916. After Newton's death in 1922, Sarah moved to New York City, New York, to live with her daughter, Quina. She died in New York City, New York and is buried in Salt Lake City, Utah.
