William J. Nash was born in Christian County, Missouri, in the year of 1836. He was married to Jane Simmons, when quite young. To this union were born seven children, four boys and three girls. His first wife and two of his daughters, Sarah and Pulaska, preceded him to the Glory World. His four sons: Matt, John, Henry and Enoch are living here in Fordland. They along with his daughter, Ida Miranda Burks, who lives in Parsons, Kansas, were all at their father's bedside when the Death Angel claimed his own. The deceased was married the second time to Mrs. Nancy Miranda Wright. To this union were born three children: two of whom died in infancy and the other Ida Miranda Burks survives. At the age of twenty-four, the deceased was converted and joined the Baptist Church at Prospect, Missouri. He later moved his Baptist membership to Dent County and finally to Fordland, of which church he was a charter member. During his last sickness, he expressed his willingness to go and his assurance of a mansion in his Father's house. He crossed the Valley of the Shadow at noon, October 22nd, 1920, at his home at the age of eighty-four years, six months and a few days.
