Death Claims Minnie Morrison.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon (Wednesday) for Miss Minnie Morrison, who passed away Saturday morning following many weeks of illness.
Miss Morrison had been the primary teacher in the Dell Rapids public school for the past 22 years. Although in poor health for quite some time, she was re-elected for the 1944-45 term and taught for several weeks following the opening of school last September.
She was born at Viborg, S. Dak., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Morrison. Following graduation from the Viborg school she attended Northern State Teachers College, Aberdeen; Sioux Falls college and the Teachers' College, Boulder, Colo. Previous to coming to Dell Rapids, she had taught at Viborg and Conde, S. Dak. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. George Nelson, Viborg; three brothers, Walter of Viborg; Frank, Portland, Oregon, and L.C. of Bismarck, N. Dak. The latter was athletic director in the Dell Rapids school several years ago.
Services are being conducted at the First Baptist church at 1:15 o'clock, conducted by Rev. B.J. Morford. The Order of Eastern Star burial ritual is also being used. Services will be held at Viborg tomorrow at the Baptist church. Burial will be made in the Viborg cemetery, on the family lot.
Pallbearers are Henry Merry, K.T. Faris, J.N. Jensen, LeRoy Healey, Howard Graves and Roger Laughlin. Honorary pallbearers: Supt. George T. Williams, U.S. Earls, and members of the board of education.
Miss Morrison has been one of the most popular teachers ever connected with the Dell Rapids school. She took a personal interest in every youngster entering school, and gained from them an everlasting admiration and respect for their "first teacher." She possessed an unusually pleasing personality, which endeared her to all who knew her. Until sickness prevented she was active in the work of the First Baptist church, the Eastern Star order, American Legion Auxiliary, and other civic organizations, and will be greatly missed by the community in general.
