Dr. James Edward McKee, 84, formerly of Newbern, died Thursday, May 1, 2008 at his residence in Memphis. He was a retired teacher and coach at Newbern High School, principal at Halls, Trimble and Obion County Central High School, president of Bethel College in McKenzie, and a World War II Army veteran. He served as an officer with AARP and was a member, teacher and elder at Germantown Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret Scott McKee; two daughters, Lila Piercey and husband, Roger, of Cordova and Marga McKee of Columbia, S.C.; a son, Scott McKee and wife, Weilin, of Cordova; two sisters, Lorene Wilson of Odessa, Texas and Lagreda Roberts of Hendersonville, N.C.; two brothers, Raymond McKee of Jacksonville, Fla. and Harold McKee of Newbern; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.N. "Nub" and Vera Tase McKee; two sisters, Opal McKee and Louise Autry; and a brother, Horace McKee.
