Elmer Harold Stolte, 79, Greeley, Colo., died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, in the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at NCMC. He was born July 21, 1926, at the family home in Washington County, Kan., the son of Ernst and Therese (Niemann) Stolte, was raised on the family farm and attended parochial school. When he was 14, the family moved to Nebraska. He graduated from high school in Lincoln, Neb., and served in the U.S. Army from January 1945-1947. Most of that time was spent in the Philippine Islands. After an honorable discharge, he lived in Beatrice, Neb. On Nov. 30, 1947, he married Helen Nienaber at Lanham, Kan. He was employed by Greeley Finance Company as vice president and collection manager. In 1995, they returned to Greeley where he was employed at Stoddard Funeral Home and then at Northern Colorado Crematory. He was a dedicated and long-time volunteer at Hospice and Palliative Care in Greeley, member of First Christian Church, lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of the Greeley Knife and Fork Club and past member of Greeley Elks Lodge 809, Exchange Club. He enjoyed being with his family, especially "the kids;" his dog Fritz and traveling.

Survivors: wife, Helen; daughter, Kathy Broun and husband Anthony of Denver, Colo.; two stepgranddaughters and two stepgreat-grandsons; sisters, Olinda Adam and Laura Frerking, both of Beatrice; nephews and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernst and Therese (Niemann) Stolte; four brothers and three sisters.

Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, First Christian Church, 2230 13th St., Greeley, Colo. Inurnment services for family at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado, 2726 W. 11th Street Rd., Greeley, CO 80634; or the First Christian Church, 2230 13th St., Greeley, CO 80631.
