Retha Wesley, 99, went to be with the Lord at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
She was born Feb. 3, 1908, in White County, Ill., to John and Minnie (Wilson) Acord.
She married Oscar Wesley on May 13, 1934, in Raleigh, Ill. He preceded her in death.
She graduated from Eldorado High School and was a homemaker. She had worked at Owens-Illinois Glassworks and at Western Cartridge. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cottage Hills, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a deaconess and assistant church treasurer. She was a member of the Missionary American Baptist Women, the Rebekahs for over 50 years and the Cottage Hills Fire Department Women's Auxiliary and was involved in the Cub Scouts.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Larry McVey of Bethalto; a son, Darrell Wesley of Dyersburg, Tenn.; a grandson and his spouse, Andy and Chrissy Wesley of Watkinsville, Ga.; and a sister-in-law, Mabel Acord of Wood River.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Ebert, Hallard and Oswald Acord.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 6 p.m. Rebekah service, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home, 727 E. Bethalto Blvd., Bethalto, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday. Pastors Joe Hagley and Bob Battles will officiate.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cottage Hills for missionary work of the American Baptist Women.
