Herb Saberg was born and reared in Port Richmond, Staten Island and moved to Great Kills in 1979.

He married his wife Marianne in 1979 and they were parents of three children:
Keith Gepes
Wendyann Gepes Castellano
Wanda Gepes
and 4 Grandchildren

He graduaded Port Richmond High School and received his Associate's Degree in the U.S. Army. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1965 in the Mediterranean and Pacific.
After his discharge, he was a Recruitment and Retention Staff Sergeant for the Army National Guard.

After retirement in 1988, he enjoyed doing odd jobs for family and friends. He was always fixing things around the house, always busy, always on the go, always helping people. He had a good heart, according to his wife of 29 years, Marianne.

Herb enjoyed bowling every week, maintaining his coin collection, and trips to Atlantic City with Marianne.
