Mr. Samuel L. Harrar, age 88 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2008.
Mr. Harrar was born in Wilmington on March 18, 1920, son of the late Benjamin and Helen (Vandever) Harrar. A longtime auto mechanic, he had worked for Brandywine Chrysler Plymouth and Porter Chevrolet. Samuel was a gentle and loving individual, possessing a deep appreciation of nature and compassion for animals. He was also an avid supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies. Above all things, he was endlessly devoted to his family, deeply adoring all of his loved ones.
Mr. Harrar is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Mary A. (Ignudo) Harrar; nephew, who he raised as his son, William Frank and his wife, Susan; son, Samuel F. Harrar and his wife, Victoria; daughters, Marie Moses and her husband, Wayne, and Helena Boehmer and her husband, Charles; grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda Harrar, Christine and Mark Moses, and Veronica Boehmer; sister, Laura Grubb and her husband, Jay; brother-in-law, Edward Ignudo and his wife, Clara; sister-in-law, Carmella DiSabatino and her husband, Andrew; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Henry, Elliot, and Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2503 Centerville Rd. in Wilmington, on Thursday morning, May 8, at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. Family and friends may call at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. (opp. Cathedral Cem.), on Wednesday evening, May 7, from 6-8 pm. No visitation will be held on Thursday morning prior to mass.
