Irvin Clair Black
Irvin Clair Black, 91, formerly of 826 Pennsylvania Ave., Huntingdon, died at 7:20 a.m. today, Monday, May 24, 1993, in the Huntingdon County Nursing Home, Huntingdon, where he had resided since April 16.
Born March 29, 1902, in Three Springs, he was a son of Clay and Mary Loraine (McNeil) Black. He was united in marriage with the former Myrtle Alverta Querry on June 4, 1924, by the Rev. M. L. Brady, in Huntingdon. Mrs. Black died July 16, 1976.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Mrs. M. Jane (Shields) Black, of Huntingdon; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister, Miss Elsie G. Black, of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were a son, A. Rudy Black, on July 7, 1985, and six brothers and sisters.
Mr. Black, who attended the Clay Township schools, had resided in Huntingdon since 1926. He began his career in farming then began employment on Dec. 6, 1926, with the Huntingdon Specialty Co., then the Huntingdon Throwing Co., which became Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp., from which he retired on April 1, 1967, as a head doffer.
In addition, he had been involved in the barbering trade all his life. He had operated a barbershop in Smithfield from 1940 until his retirement in May 1986.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Steven E. Crile officiating. Interment will be in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon R.D. 1.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, from 7-9 p.m., and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until the hour of the services.
Memorial contributions, in remembrance of Irvin C. Black, may be given to Emmanuel Bible Church, R.D. 4, Huntingdon, Pa. 16652.
