Mrs. Malissa A. Tompkins Martin (1872-1950), 78, sister of Mrs. Mattie Belle Fowler, of Palatka, died at her home in Hawthorne Tuesday night as the result of a heart attack. She was the widow of Henry Colson Martin.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at the Island Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Everett Boals, pastor, officiating. Interment will be under the direction of Williams Funeral Home, Gainesville.
Mrs. Martin was born at Lochloosa and was a lifelong resident of Alachua County and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #52 of Hawthorne.
Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Brown, Hawthorne, and Mrs. R. F. Gano, Brooker; sons, Aubrey D. Martin, of Waldo, J. V. Martin, Jacksonville, and H. F. Martin, Tampa; sisters, Mrs. Ada May Dupree, Gainesville, and Mrs. Wallis (Lois) Preston, Micanopy. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd Thursday, 10 Aug 1950.)
