OBITUARY
The death of Mrs. Fred Warner last week M
onday (Jan. 17th), removes from
Milton one of its long time
residents and a pioneer of this section.
Lena Barnes was born Sept. 20, 1855, in Iowa. In 1882 she was united in marriage with Fred Warner.
They came to Elk Rapids and soon settled on a farm in
Milton on the shores of Torch Lake. She was the
mother of thirteen children, -- nine sons and four
daughters. One daughter, Nellie
, passed away at the age
of five years and Mrs. Anna Hulet died thirteen years ago, leaving a babe a few days old. Harold has since
then lived with his grandparents. These sons Jame
s, Charles, Johnnie, Harry, Ernest, Frank, Jackson,
William and George. The daughters are, Mrs. O. E. Ca
se and Mrs. Bert Case. All of the children except
James were present at the funeral. The eldest sons bor
e their dear mother's form to her last resting place.
She leaves four sisters and one brother, Albert R. Barnes of Torch Lake. The home is lonely now where
mother labored so faithfully for her loved ones. Th
e husband and his family have the sympathy of many
friends.
The funeral services were held at the Kewadin
church, Rev. Chas. E. Thies giving words of comfort to
the sorrowing ones. A very fitting poem was contributed and dedicated to her memory.
