Hubert Ross Heilman, 90, who owned and operated Heilman's Restaurant at Broadway and West Erie in downtown Lorain, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, in Fort Pierce, Fla.

He owned and operated Heilman's Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., as well as in Lorain. The Heilman family's restaurant tradition continues at the Beachcomber and Bobby's Bistro in Clearwater, Fla.

Heilman was a former president of the Ohio Restaurant Association.

He was born in Huron and moved to Fort Pierce in 2004 from Deerfield, Fla.

He graduated from Cornell University and later received a bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton. Heilman and his late wife, Dorothy, were Cornell Hotel School benefactors.

Survivors include his son, Robert L. Heilman of Melrose, Fla.; daughters Elizabeth A. Heilman of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Lynne L. Fayo of Cover, S.C.; brother, Robert E. Heilman of Lenore, N.C.; and seven grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and son, Ross W. Heilman.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Gregory Episcopal Church, 100 NE Mizner Blvd., Boca Raton, Fla.
