Melvin David Blackburn 61 of 1038 Tenth Street SW Hickory died Sunday afternoon in a Charlotte hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born July 8, 1908 in Catawba County the son of the late JD and Clara Phelps Blackburn.
He was employed by Hickory Wood Turning Co.
Funeral services will be conducted at Bass Smith Funeral Home chapel Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock with the Rev. Clyde Collins officiating. Burial will be in the Marvin cemetery in Catawba County.
Survivors include a son Junior Blackburn of Hickory; two sisters Mrs. Rose Lee Wheeler of Hickory and Mrs. Odis Day of Lenoir and three grandchildren.
The body will remain at Bass Smith Funeral Home and the family will receive from seven until nine tonight.
