Stanley Phillips, of Springville, IN, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at his residence. Born on June 29, 1917, in Gregory, KY, he was the son of Benjamin Harrison and Josey (Godsey) Phillips. He married Georgia R. Anderson on August 25, 1941, and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons: Robert E., Herbert L., Marvin W. (Bill), and Gary W. Phillips, all of Springville, IN; three brothers: David E. Phillips, of Avoca, IN; Joseph Ray and Howard Phillips, both of Springville, IN; three sisters: Aline Nelson, of Houston, TX; Alma Jones and Charlene Banks, both of Springville, IN; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Luther, R.C., Herbert, and Glen Phillips; and two sisters: Carrie Gregory and Opal Chattman.
He was a retired farmer and a member and trustee of Grace Baptist Church in Springville, IN. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Services for Stanley Phillips will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, at the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Reverend Roscoe Godsey officiating. Burial will be in the Springville West Cemetery, with Military Rites being accorded by the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call from 12 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
