She was born March 9, 1903, in Easton, IL, the daughter of George and Susannah Furrer Athey. She married Clarence Schukei on November 21, 1923, and they were later divorced.
She then married Warren Dawson on October 9, 1968, in Pauma Valley, CA. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1999, after they moved back to Waterloo.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Elizabeth) Schukei of Mason City; a daughter, Janice Hahn (Dr. Gilbert) Glasson of Waterloo; seven grandchildren, Steven (Sue) Schukei and Bill Schukei, both of Mason City; Ellen (Michael) Paul of Iowa City, John (Keeley) Schukei of Great Falls, MT, Anne (David) Sargent and Sue (John) Hawn of Cedar Rapids, and Katy (David) Rohle of Waterloo; and one step- granddaughter, Monda (Brent) Linderman, of Mason City; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
Memorial services will be held at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel at a later date. Arrangements are with The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball. Memorials may be directed to the Waterloo Public Library.
