Father, Jeremiah Burns
Mother, Elizabeth "Betsy" Unknown, widow of James Alvey, Sr

Philip Alvey came to Kentucky with his mother, Elizabeth "Betsy", and three siblings about 1806, which is the first year that Betsy shows up on the KY Tax lists. She and her four children are later listed on the 1810 Washington Co, KY census. Philip's three siblings are James Alvey, Sr (my GGG grandfather), Charles Alvey and Catherine Alvey (she married Christian Wiseman). Although not proven, I believe that James, Jr and Charles Alvey are sons of a James Alvey, Sr, who is a son of Jesse Alvey. Philip and Catherine are the children of a man who died in OH and left them $100 each. This man stated in his will that they were children he fathered while living with Elizabeth Alvey of St. Mary's Co, MD, who had moved he thought to Nelson Co, KY.

When Philip married Mary "Polly" Mattingly on April 29, 1815 in Washington Co, KY, his half brother, Charles Alvey, states that his "reputed" father is presumed dead.

Both Philip and Mary Alvey are believed to be buried in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery at St. John, Hardin Co, KY, but no burial record has ever been found.

Philip's wife, Mary "Polly" Mattingly, was the daughter of Leonard Mattingly, Jr and Ann "Nancy" Cissell, and the granddaughter of (Old)Leonard Mattingly, Sr and Margaret Monarch. Old Leonard, as he is referred to by most Mattingly family genealogical researchers, was for many years thought to have married Mary "Polly" Mattingly, but recent discoveries have revised that thinking. Proof has surfaced pointing to Margaret Monarch as his first wife and mother of Philip's wife, Mary "Polly" Mattingly.
