Allen Zaro Cook, 89, of Powhatan, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Nichols Cook. He is survived by his three children, Kenneth Cook (Debi) of Florida, Bruce Cook, and Lisa Vaughan both of Powhatan; six grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Caitlin, Jenna, Logan, and Lauren; four great grandchildren, Sophia, Emery, Wyatt and Olivia; seven brothers, five sisters, and many nieces and nephews. He was loved by so many.

Allen was born to Columbus Walter Cook and Laura Ethel Johnson Cook in 1934, in Scottsville, VA. He attended Powhatan schools. He met Carol Nichols in 1957 and they were married in Sept., 1957. They remained married until her passing in 2019, four days short of their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Allen was a builder in Powhatan, Va since the 1960's. He was self-employed for the majority of his working life. He worked with his son, Kenneth, during his last years building. He loved building and he was very good at it. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church since 1981, where he was a trustee and deacon for many years.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 22, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy.(Rt.60), Powhatan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Gospel Light Baptist Church, Powhatan. Interment church cemetery.
