Marian L. Costello, 86, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Oakwood Manor in Oshkosh. She was born on February 28, 1937, in Fond du Lac to Alexander and Ida (Abler) Lefeber of Dotyville. She married Patrick B. Costello on September 28, 1958, at St. Michael's church in Dotyville and they had three children.

Marian was the oldest daughter in a family of ten children and lived her first few years in a one-room house on the family farm in Dotyville. She graduated from L.P. Goodrich High School in 1955 having studied Latin and business skills among the typical high school curriculum of the time.

Marian moved to town at age 18, taking a secretarial position at Rosenow Elementary School in the Fond du Lac School District. She would return to the school district after her children entered school, serving as a secretary in the Goodrich attendance office and the library (her favorite). She remained there until her retirement in 1998.

Marian will be remembered for her accordion playing at family gatherings and neighborhood block parties. She could pick up melodies by ear and play many a polka, waltz, or songbook standard. She spent many happy years traveling with her group of women secretary friends from school known as The Getaway Girls. Marian could also be counted on to fill your Avon or Mary Kay order promptly. In retirement, she volunteered at St. Agnes hospital in the shampoo room. She was a life-long member of Holy Family Church.

Marian enjoyed many special summers with her visiting grandchildren - with trips to Gillies, Lakeside Park, country drives, croquet, and family reunions. She had recently Face-Timed with her two great-granddaughters and decorated her Christmas tree with her great grandson.

Marian is survived by her children Patrick of Appleton, WI, Colleen (Mike) Jubinal of Lakewood, CA, and Jane Costello of Poway, CA; two grandchildren Anne Marie (Matt) Jubinal of Berkeley, CA, and Gabe (Katie) Putman of Appleton as well as three great-grandchildren: Miles, Jo and June. She is further survived by her siblings, Monica (Mike) Lapswich of Appleton, Rita Parke of Denver, Steve (Patty) Lefeber of Seattle, Carol (Bob) Gens of Sheboygan, and Tony (Gay) Lefeber and Cathy (Tom) Luckow both of Fond du Lac. She is further survived by her brother and sister in-laws, George (Helen), Jane (Ben) Majeska, Pete (Loretta) and Sr. Ruth Mary Costello, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Pat, siblings Alex (Kathryn), Jerry (Darlene), and Rosie (Hank) Urban, brother-in-law Jerry Parke, and grandson Patrick Jubinal.

The family thanks the staff of Heartland Hospice, the Meadows, and Oakwood Manor for their loving care of Marian over the last three years. Visitation will be held at Zacherl Funeral Home on Friday, December 29th from 9 - 11 AM with a funeral mass to follow directly at 11:30 AM at Holy Family Church in Fond du Lac. Memorials may be directed to Holy Family Church or Catholic Charities USA.
