Harold D Smith of Woodbridge Virginia passed away on December 8, 2023.

On Friday, December 8, 2023, the world lost a hard-working, noble and respected man, Harold D. Smith of Woodbridge, VA. Born in Hamilton County, IL to Ralph (a schoolteacher) and Rosa Smith (a homemaker), Harold was the oldest of 10 children helping with the family business, the R & R Ranch and farm. He attended a one-room schoolhouse throughout his primary education. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Army where he fought in WWII in the BURMA campaign. He received
the rank of Sergeant and was awarded several medals including the Bronze Battle Star and the Good Conduct Medal. After the war, he attended college at Southern Illinois University, Sanford Brown
Business College and Southeastern University, graduating with a Master's Degree in accounting. He began his professional career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was stationed in Newark, NJ,
Jackson, MI and Detroit, MI. He became a Special Agent and later the Section Chief-in-Charge of Law Enforcement Arts Training and Research Section and New Agent Counseling at the FBI Academy at Quantico. While working in Washington DC he met the love of his life, Virginia Tibbetts, and they married on September 5, 1948, and the two remained happily married for until her recent passing in February of 2022.
Harold is survived by his sisters Jean Strickland and Vivian Tucker, as well as his brothers Phillip Smith and Michael Smith, his son Daniel, daughters in-law Glennda and Carol, grandchildren, Adam, Jacob and Elijah, and great-grandson Carter. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Venita Stewart, his brothers Buell, Cameron, Adrian and Lowell Smith. He is also predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Virginia Smith and their eldest son, David Smith.
Harold enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader and spent many days in his recliner enjoying a good book. He was a devout family man and was always more worried about taking care of others and what they needed. Harold was commonly known as the "sweetest, nicest man." If you knew him, then you know he would always ask, "What can I do to help you?" He was happiest helping other people and he will be greatly missed.
