Mrs. Berna Deen (Bray) Lindsey (82) of Mount Arlington passed away December 11th, 2023. She lived in her home in Mt. Arlington, NJ for 55 years. She was a kind, and loving wife, mother and grandmother who was totally devoted to her family.
Berna Deen Bray was born on December 22, 1940, in Dumas, Texas to her parents; father, William Bowden Bray and Bonnie Bell (Alford). She had two brothers and three sisters.
While living at home she helped her mother prepare meals, for her father and siblings. She learned to make homemade noodles, a variety of pies with the favorite being pecan, homemade dinner rolls, green Jello salad, numerous cakes with the most popular being the birthday train cake made using frozen orange cans for her son Jeff and grandkids. Affectingly known as "Grammy" she prepared noodles, pie(s), rolls and green Jello salad for every Thanksgiving and Christmas for over 55 years.

Berna Deen graduated from Dumas High School in 1957 in Dumas, TX. She later attended West Texas State University in Canyon, TX (1962-1963) where she met her future husband, Roy Lindsey. They married November 28th, 1963, at the First Baptist Church, where she was baptized when ten years old, in Dumas, TX. They Lived in Farwell, TX, Las Cruces, NM, and El Paso, TX until the US Army sent Roy to Picatinny Arsenal in Feb 1964 where they lived in Dover. After Roy served his two-year tour in the Army, he was hired at Picatinny Arsenal and they moved to the residence in Mt. Arlington, NJ.

Bern Deen loved Christian and country music, especially the old hymns, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Buddy Holly. Her favorite musicians were the Cramer Brothers who performed at the annual West End Fair in Gilbert, PA. She has actively attended the Faith Family Fellowship/First Baptist Church of Rockaway, NJ for almost 60 years.

She was preceded in death: by her mother Bonnie Bell (Alford) Bray (80) in Clarendon, TX, her father William Bowden Bray (92) in Amarillo, TX, her sister Francis Bray Ivey (79) in Clarendon, TX, her sister Ruth Lavona (Bray) Brooks (77) in San Antonio, TX, her brother William Bowden Bray Jr. (74) in Amarillo, TX. and sister Pauline Elizabeth (Bray) Gibbons (87) in Lafayette, LA.
Survivors include her husband Roy D. Lindsey, her son Jeffery D. and his wife Elizabeth (Zurn) Lindsey, their three grandchildren Nicole Faith, Dale Asher, and Caleb Jeffery all of Hackettstown, her brother Charles E. Bray of Lubbock, TX, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She with her family traveled: 10-day tour of Israel with 11 members of the First Baptist Church; 10-day tour of Europe with the Roxbury Band and Choir where Roxbury Choir performed for Pope John II on Easter Day; a three-day cruise to Bahamas and visits in Fl from Disney to Cape Canaveral. For 50 years they traveled, either by car or airplane, to Texas. CO or LA for a two-three week visit with family, including reunions, funerals, and weddings.

1972 - Wernher Von Braun, a German and American aerospace engineer and space architect, at Disney Land FL.
1974 - Al and Boby Unser, Indianapolis 500 multiple winners at Chama, NM.
1984 - Pope John II, Easter Service at Vatican City.
1996 - Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys owner at FAO Swartz in NYNY.
