Samuel Douglas "Doug" Glenn, age 75, of Monroe, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Hospice of Union County. He was born October 24, 1942 in McDowell County to the late Samuel R. and Eva McMahon Glenn. Mr. Glenn was also preceded in death by his sister Revonda Hemphill.

He belonged to Central United Methodist Church in Monroe. Mr. Glenn graduated from Marion High School in 1960 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. Upon honorable discharge he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he met his wife who was attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The two married in 1965 and later moved to Monroe.

After college, he worked for Allstate Insurance Company in Charlotte. For the majority of his business career, he ran the Union County Credit Bureau in Monroe. Through the years he also worked as an accountant and auctioneer. He was an avid collector who enjoyed buying and selling antiques with his wife Sandra which led him to become a licensed auctioneer. He loved finding unique and unusual things to share with his grandchildren. He also found great joy in cooking for his family; his favorite family meal being breakfast.

He was a UNC Tar Heel and loved Carolina basketball. He taught Sunday school, coached youth football and enjoyed riding, and raising horses and spending time with his pets, Jack and Jill. He will most be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his Lord with all his heart and taught his family by this example.

Mr. Glenn is survived by his wife of 52 years; two daughters and their husbands, a son and his wife; six grandchildren; a sister and a brother.

The family received friends on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 1:00PM at Central United Methodist Church, followed by a service in the Chapel at 2:00PM.
