She grew up in the Valparaiso area and left farm life to attend and graduate from South Bend Business College. While there, she worked as a nanny to pay for her schooling.
She met Donald Eugene 'Gene" Wiggins while he was attending school at Valpo Tech after he served in World War 2. They were married on May 15, 1948. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2023, as they neared their 75th wedding anniversary.
Helen enjoyed every day of her career working as a secretary at Banta School and Parkview School, retiring in 1989. She always had fond memories of students and teachers, especially Susan Livarchik who always had a very special place in her heart.
Helen enjoyed shopping, trying new restaurants, and loved making hundreds of trips to Chicago, Hawaii, Michigan, and all over with her daughter, Barb, up until a couple of months ago. They were always busy and active together, seeking out new adventures and places to see, and were rarely apart.
Her only survivors are her loving and devoted daughter Barbara who will be lost without her, and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Wiggins (2023), her sons, Donald James Wiggins (2000) and Richard Alan Wiggins (1997), her parents, James Irwin "Brady" Weddle and Ida Ethel (Spencer) Weddle Buchanan, and all three sisters: Lois Haggerty, Betty Sweet and Delores Wagner.
