Mrs. Alberta Ruff Marshall, 85, our family matriarch, mother, grandmother and aunt, has taken flight and is in the care of our Savior Jesus Christ. She died Thursday, June 30, 2005. Born June 10, 1920, in Newberry, S.C., to the late Mr. Richard Ruff and Mrs. Lillie T. Johnson, she relocated to Winston-Salem in 1936 with her mother and brother, Mr. Willie Lee Glenn, who also preceded her in death. Her 85 years of peaceful existence were blessed with many opportunities and she enjoyed her passions of strong family, good food and hospitality and baseball. She, being the final living relative of her generation, also laid to rest sisters Lillie Mae Ruff and Parnell Groves and in-laws Richard Marshall, Eugene and Irene Marshall, Hattie Jones, and L.C. and Louise Caldwell. Our family stream began on Sept. 22, 1939, when our parents married. They enjoyed 60 years of marital covenant. Our father, her husband, Mr. Albert Nance Marshall, transitioned into eternity on Feb. 15, 2000, at age 82. We have been left a strong legacy of family togetherness and love and we will continue to exemplify our love for each other through the lessons we have been taught. This legacy shall be insured through the celebration of her memory and life through her children. Homegoing services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Christ Cathedral Church of Deliverance. Bishop Freddie B. Marshall Jr. will officiate and interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends thirty minutes before the service at the church and at other times they may be contacted at 3005 Draper Court. Online condolences may be received at www.hooperfuneralhome.net (Hooper)
