CUTHBERT, Georgia -- Iona M. Martin, 74, of Cuthbert, died on Saturday at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Cuthbert, with burial in Eastview Cemetery, according to Lunsford Funeral Home, Cuthbert.
Mrs. Martin was born on April 29, 1918 in Claxton, Georgia, daughter of Moody H. and Annie Ethridge Mulkey. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1939, majoring in home economics; taught school for two years at Shellman (Georgia) High School; and was a member of First Baptist Church in Cuthbert, where she was a former Royal Ambassadors leader. She was a Boy Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader and a member of the Cuthbert Garden Club, the Cuthbert Recreation Committee, the Randolph-Terrell Women's Medicine Auxiliary and the Georgia and National Women's Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; two sons, Robert B. Martin, IV, of Libertyville, Illinois, and Richard M. "Dick" Martin of Albany; a daughter, Marsha M. Brownlee of Cuthbert; a brother, Billy Mulkey of Twin Lakes; and five grandchildren.
