First, the 27th Arkansas Infantry Regiment (1862–1865) was a Confederate Army infantry regiment during the American Civil War. The unit served entirely in the Department of the Trans-Mississippi and surrendered at Marshall, Texas, at the war's end.
The flower also refers to service in Company H of the Arkansas Cavalry Regiment, 1864-65, which was on the union side.
