After graduating Coleman High School in 1972, Pennie obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southwestern State University. She then obtained a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Texas in Austin. Pennie worked diligently at Baylor Scott and White in Temple and later at U.T. Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where she touched the lives of countless healthcare professionals and students with her wealth of information and guidance.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Pennie's legacy resides in her selfless acts of kindness. She began serving others at a young age, working as a candy striper at Overall Morris Hospital in Coleman. Throughout her life, she continued to dedicate her time and energy to making a positive impact in her community. Pennie volunteered as a library aide at Mrs. JAB Miller Library in Coleman and delivered meals on wheels, ensuring that those in need received not only a warm meal but also a caring smile.
