Mary passed away on January 18, 2013, in Redmond, WA. She was born on October 16, 1920, in New York City, NY, to Alfred and Mary Woolsey. After spending her childhood in Seattle and California, she studied painting at Cal in Berkeley and went on to earn her degree in Advertising and Design from Parsons, NYC. This led to her first job as a layup artist for Woman's Day Magazine. Her artwork has been shown at galleries in Port Townsend, Port Angeles, Sequim, Redmond, and, in Seattle, at the Frye, Sam, and Henry Art Museum. Mary was a long-standing member of the Colonial Dames of America. She raced the family sailboat, "Hussar," a 26-foot Blanchard Knockabout, in Lake Washington "Powder Puff" series, with the Corinthian Yacht Club. Moving from Bellevue to build a home near Port Townsend, she played golf as a member of Chevy Chase. After marrying Norm Blanchard, she enjoyed cruising in the Canadian Offshore Islands as a member of the Seattle Yacht Club. A memorial service will be held at Emerald Heights, 10901 176th Circle NE, Redmond, on Saturday, February 16, at 2 p.m. She is survived by her sons, Derek Barnard and John Barnard, and granddaughters, Lisa San Martin and Sarah Barnard. She is predeceased by her second husband, Norman C. Blanchard. Memorials may be made to the Children's Hospital.
